PS 34 PTA Minutes

Lilith Dollard, co-secretary opened the meeting. President Julia Kotowski was not present. All other board members were present.

Mr. Beugoms gave the Principal’s Address

·         Second Round of Mid-year Adjustments have arrived. $63,000. We are in good fiscal shape.

·         We received $50,000 from councilman Lincoln Restler’s office. Line itemed as Environmental Education.

·         Saturday Academy for grades 3-5 starts this Saturday. Focus is on test readiness and runs from 9-12.

·         BRIC Program: For grades 2-3 with a focus on animation.

·         From February Break on the school be working on Capital Construction Project for new school Storage.

·         There is also $450,000 that Mr. B has to start planning for use in fixing the school cafeteria.

Martha Kessler (CEC member)

·         Parent engagement: There are groups on all levels that are looking for parent participation. If you think that you have some hours during the month she urges you to join a CEC meeting or run for a position on the CEC. You can apply and vote through your NYC Schools Account. (If you need help getting a NYC Schools Account please ask the Parent Coordinator Deise Kowolski for help)

Updates from Parent Coordinator:

·         Congratulation to the Student Award recipients.

·         Free STEM Enrichment Programs Throughout Spring Recess

·         If you want to run for CEC you can apply through Feb 13th.

·         February 16th parent workshop on the Importance of attendance.

·         NYC Department of Water Resources Art and Poetry Contest.

·         6th Annual Eco Fashion Show. Virtual Meeting February 14th.

·         Principal Forum February 15th

 

Old Business:

·         There was a Teacher Appreciation breakfast. Thank you to Alexandra H. for arranging it. It was catered by Three Decker Diner and Happy Zoe Desserts. If anyone has more ideas on how to help the teachers please reach out to the PTA.

·         Results of parent survey- Which Enrichments Would You Like to See at PS 34?: Lego Robotics, Dance Movement, Foreign Language, Visual Arts, Theater, Recess Programs, Chess. (Ranked order from most to least votes). For the remainder of the year the school is looking at adding more assemblies and a ballroom dancing program for the 5th grade. Next year planning: Ms. Crawford will include LEGO in STEM, more dance programs, will also explore more enrichments that incorporate foreign language.

Treasurer Report:

·         Brian shared the monthly Treasurer Report. (details of this can be found in the slideshow)

New Business:

·         Friday February 10th is Movie Night: Shrek won the poll. Adults and children must have tickets. It is not a drop off event. Popcorn will be for free. Additional snacks will be able for purchase.

·         4th and 5th Grade Assemblies: 4th and 5th grade students were asked their opinion on which topics they would like. (See slideshow for results)

·         Read-A-Thon: March 6th-March 10th

·         Art Party: Volunteers are still needed for the Art Party. Event will be held at Dobbin Street.
