PS 34 PTA Minutes

Date: Tuesday November 15, 2022

Time: 6:15 pm

Lilith Dollard opened the meeting, filling in for absent Julia Kotowski, president. All other executive board members are present.

Mr. Beugoms gave the Principal’s Address

·         If you need follow up conversations with your child’s teacher after parent teacher conferences, please reach out to your teacher.

·         Middle School application process is happening and Mr. B and Ms Deise are there for any support you need. It is all done online. Look on Parentsquare for posted middle school tours. If you go on a tour it will not count as an absence.

·         PS 34 is hosting virtual and in person school tours.

·         Budget: On October 31st it is the Snapshot Day for school enrollment. This is than used for midyear adjustments in school budgets. We are over 29 students from their projection, and we will get additional money in our budget later this year.

·         Illness: There are a lot of respiratory illnesses going around. Flu safety from the Chancellor was posted.

Updates from Parent Coordinator:

·         Student Award Ceremony on November 29th

·         Middle School Applications are open. Families should have received access codes in the mail. Reach out to Ms. Deise if you have any questions. Deadline is December 1st.

·         NYC Schools Account:  Make sure that you have activated your school account. You can see grades, test scores, take virtual parent classes, and access Support Hub for your DOE issued device. This account will travel with you all the way through high school.

·         Save for College Program NYC Rise: nyckidsrise.org

·         Thanksgiving Food Drive Wednesday November 16th.

 

Treasurer Report:

·         Jolie shares the monthly Treasurer Report

Upcoming Events

·         Collecting Donations for the Winter Auction until November 28th

·         Winter Auction runs December 2nd- 11th. There will be a website that we will use for the auction.

·         Pajama Day with a 50/50 fundraiser. Tuesday December 6th.

Fundraising

·         AmazonSmile: sign up through your Amazon account to have a small percentage of your purchase go to our school.

Proposed Change to Budget: Vote was discussed and passed to fund Learning A-Z.

Committees:

·         Gardening: Fall Garden Fest was a huge success! Bake Sale raised $500 to be added back for the Garden Committee.

·         Fundraising Committee: Winter Auction upcoming. If you have any fundraising ideas please contact the PTA.

·         Dual Language Committee: Last month they had some media coverage to promote the program more and get more students involved in the program. Greenpointers and Super Express both wrote articles about the Polish Event at school. The committee has a petition to create Polish as a second language program in Middle School. The committee is also looking at different grants to help support the Dual Language Program at PS 34.

·         Wellness Committee: The committee is working on three initiatives: What can be done to move towards more nutritious options, How can the PTA Wellness Committee partner with the school Wellness Committee, and How to provide additional academic support to students and families.

·         Merchandise Committee: Online Merch Sale will be November 15-20th

Q & A

·         The school tours are only for prospective parents, but he will investigate ways that parents can come in and have school tours.

·         Check out Donors Choose or suggest Donors Choose to your child’s teacher that they post so you can help donate to their classroom.

 

Councilman Lincoln Restler

·         Committed to do anything for PS 34.

·         Work has started to make McGuiness safer. Some streets no longer have left turn lanes.
