Eckford Street Art Studio
Art After School at Eckford Street Studio is a drop-off program for children in grades PreK-5. Pick-up from PS34 is available every day school is in session. Classes are capped at fifteen students, with a 1:5 teacher to student ratio. Young artists collaborate and make their own work, and have "open studio" time to experiment with materials of their choosing. Class fees include all supplies and a sketchbook to keep. Each series culminates in an Art Show for family and friends to celebrate!
Each week, we examine works of art and unlock the ideas and processes used by artists to create them. Projects emphasize process, problem solving, and experimentation, and are designed by experienced Teaching Artists in response to students' interests. We support our students as they develop an authentic and personal artistic practice, whatever that might mean for them. We work in a wide variety of materials and methods, including paint, clay, printmaking, recycled and found objects, natural materials, textiles, and more!
YMCA
When children enter the Y Afterschool program, a whole other world of imagination and growth opens up to them. In addition to supplementing what they have learned in school, they participate in interactive learning models that engage critical thinking skills, get assistance with their homework from trained YMCA staff, have a chance to socialize with each other, and form long-lasting friendships that enhance their development, growth and self-confidence.
Our curriculum is based on a program model that focuses on learning enhancement, health and recreation, and building competence and confidence in children. The program runs every regular school day, from 3 PM to 6 PM, in a supervised and structured environment, providing a safe after school alternative for children.
International Ballet Institute (French/Ballet)
The Ballet Institute aims to bring the highest levels of classical ballet training to as many promising talents as possible. We recognize the deep power of this depth of training and education. It is a value that is immeasurable when producing the next generation of ballet artists, along with the next generation of citizens. IBI fosters education and character in their dancers, preparing them to be truly qualified to take themselves and the art form to the next level of artistic evolution.
Here we seek not only to introduce ballet to potential dancers, but to give those dancers a real chance at developing themselves as multi faceted dance artists and creators. Once they have developed their own gifts they will be equipped to lead the following generations to their own artistic heights, ensuring the futures of the dancers and the dance.
