PS 34 PTA Minutes

Date: Tuesday September 13, 2022

Julia Kotowski opened the meeting. All executive board members were present.

Mr. Beugoms gave the Principal’s Address

·         Mr. B provided information about the opening of school.

·         School aides have been fully staffed.

·         The city projected that we would be losing students. Projection was 376 students. But as of the meeting there were 413 students enrolled.

·         Art and Music clusters have their own rooms.

·         Pre-K will be having cluster programs added to their schedules this year.

·         Field trips are starting again.

·         Encouraged parents to make sure they have access to Operoo and Parent Square.

o   Email Mr. B or Deise directly if you are having difficulties.

·         The dual language program has received Polish books and curriculum.

 

Julia Kotowski

·         Julia introduced the PTA and what the roles of the PTA and the PTA Executive Board.

·         Julia is looking for people interested in being co-president with her.

·         Julia gave an introduction on why the PTA fundraises and what the money raised is used for.

·         Julia gave an update on the “Bridge the Gap” fundraiser from over the summer.

·         Ways that parents can stay informed:

o   Ps34pta.org

o   Email blasts from Mailchimp

o   Instagram: @PS34ptagreenpoint

·         The PTA will start having Coffee Mornings at Pueblo Querido on Wednesday 9/20.

·         Introductions of Committees: Fundraising, Events, Gardening, Outdoor Learning, Grants, and more.

o   Looking for parents to join and lead the different committees.

·         Ways that parents can get involved:

o   Committees

o   Translation services

o   Letter Writing

o   Graphic Design

o   Tech Support

o   Join the PA Volunteer WhatsApp group

 

Old Business

·         Brian Binsack gave a Financial Summary for FY 2021-2022

·         Brian also gave a summary of the fundraising efforts from FY 2021-2022

·         He also gave a Budget Review of FY 2021-2022

·         Brian reviewed to new budget that was approved by the PA in June 22”.

·         Brian gave the Interim Report got 7/01/2022-08/31/2022

 

New Business

·         There will be a Merch Sale on Monday 9/19 in the school yard before school.

·         Picture Day: October 24th (individual) & October 28th (class and graduation)

 

Q & A

·         There will be a Pop-up online shop soon.

·         Concerns were raised about closing of Eckford Street before school. Mr. B discussed how there is not additional staff to cover the street closure in the morning. As an alternative to making the drop off safe, students will be dropped off directly in cafeteria. Parents are welcome into the school yard.

·         Mr. B also said that once that afterschool begins school dismissal should be less congested. Eckford Street will be closed for dismissal.

·         There was a question about whether we were going to have Disney. Mr. B said he has to make sure there is enough funding for Disney. The PA is holding money for Disney from the previous year’s ticket sales. Teacher salary is the biggest teachers cost with Disney.

·         There will be a calendar created by the PA for the upcoming events led by the PTA.

·         Garden Committee is going to be getting soil for the planters in the yard. They are getting soil from City Soil and will be looking for volunteers to shovel soil. Date TBD

·         Email the Garden Committee if you want to be a part of their WhatsApp group.

·         Lego Robotics is starting with push-ins for 1st through 5th.

·         There was a concern brought up by a parent about help with homework in the dual immersion program. She wants to make sure that homework has both English and Polish directions.
